PLEASANTON, CA — Cleanup on the Canyon Fire that ignited in the hills between Pleasanton and Sunol on June 23 continued Monday.

The fire was 85% contained at 71 acres, Cal Fire reported at 8:15 a.m.

“Crews are making good progress and will remain at scene throughout the day continuing to extinguish all hot spots,” the agency tweeted Sunday.

It was expected that firefighters would stay for multiple days as there was no recent burn history in the area, making conditions challenging, Cal Fire SCU Division Chief Chuck Carroll told Patch.

The cause remained under investigation. One outbuilding burned and Cal Fire investigated whether the fire started in the building or spread to it, Carroll said.
