Pleasanton Celebrates Black History Month
The city will honor Black History Month will host discussions, art exhibits, film screenings, and book lists.
PLEASANTON, CA — Pleasanton is celebrating Black History Month through several different programs and initiatives.
The Firehouse Arts Center is hosting a solo exhibition by Fan Lee Warren, which will "delve into the historical and cultural narratives of various perceptions of African-American culture, its historical construct, and its effect on contemporary society." The exhibition lasts until March 1, and there will be a reception on Feb. 15 from 1-3 p.m. in the Firehouse Arts Center lobby.
The Pleasanton Library Film Club is leading a screening of discussion of Robert Townshend's 1987 film "Hollywood Shuffle," a satiric look at Hollywood's portrayal of Black actors. The free screening will take place Saturday, Feb. 15 from 1:30 to 4 p.m.
