Pleasanton Launches Its First 5-Year Citywide Strategic Plan
Dubbed "ONE Pleasanton," the initiative will tackle long-term planning in five specific areas.
PLEASANTON, CA — The Pleasanton City Council this week approved its first five-year strategic plan — expanding its vision and goal setting from the previous two-year format.
The longer-term initiative, called "ONE Pleasanton," will address strategies and priorities for sustainability and the overall well-being of the community and residents, according to city staff.
"The inaugural 5-Year Citywide Strategic Plan embodies our shared vision for a city that thrives while honoring our historic character,” Pleasanton Mayor Karla Brown said. “This plan is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our community and city leaders. Together, we are forging a path toward a more prosperous, sustainable and inclusive Pleasanton."

The ONE Pleasanton plan lays out five multi-year goals as:
- Funding our Future: Support financial health and sound fiscal policies through long-term planning, cost recovery, increased revenue and cost containment.
- Optimizing our Organization: Continuously improve the organization’s ability to deliver quality services to the public by supporting our employees’ professional development, hiring top talent, and encouraging innovation in how we work.
- Investing in our Environment: Promote effective use of existing facilities through maintenance and repair and plan for future facilities, amenities, and infrastructure to benefit the community with a focus on environmental stewardship.
- Safeguarding our City: Provide comprehensive public safety services and prepare the city for future emergencies to foster a safe and secure community.
- Building a Community where Everyone Belongs: Foster community engagement and conduct effective planning to promote a livable and economically vibrant community.
Approved at the council's Oct. 3 meeting, ONE Pleasanton evolved from a months-long collaboration between the community, city staff and councilmembers to create a
"shared vision for the city’s future," officials said. Input was derived from community- engagement activities from February to June that included 11 focus groups, a survey, an open house and two Farmer’s Market pop-up events.

This new "road map" will be in place through 2028, with an immediate focus on infrastructure, water supply and emergency preparedness and preparing an Implementation Action Plan, the city said.
City officials will review the new goals on a bi-annual basis to align with the budget and any changing conditions.
