PLEASANTON, CA — Many elections took place last week in Pleasanton, but here’s one of the few that’s likely to make everyone smile. On Tuesday, the Pleasanton City Council crowned Winston Burke, a 2.5-year-old miniature Australian Shepherd, as the city’s Ambassadog.

Winston’s owners won him the title at the Valley Humane Society’s Tails at Twilight gala in October. He is a friendly dog who loves to go for walks, meet new people, and completing weekly agility training. As Ambassadog, Winston will be honored with a place of honor in the Hometown Holiday Parade, a city proclamation, a Tri-Valley Community Television program, and an article in the Pleasanton Weekly.

“Valley Humane Society has been saving animal lives and supporting our community for more than 35 years, so we are pleased to have the City participate with them in recognizing the Pleasanton Ambassadog,” Pleasanton Assistant City Manager Pamela Ott said in a statement. “Having an official canine representative highlights our dog-friendly community, while recognizing a valuable local non-profit organization and its efforts to save and improve the lives of Tri-Valley companion animals.”
