PLEASANTON, CA — Pleasanton has a new elected official, and he's adorable. Jeter Ball, an 11-year-old Tolling Retriever/Basset Hound, was named the city's new Ambassador on Tuesday at the Pleasanton City Council meeting. Each year, the Ambassadog title is auctioned off at the Valley Humane Society's Tails at Twilight gala.

In his new role, Jeter will receive a place a honor in Pleasanton's annual Hometown Holiday Parade, a city proclamation, a featured article in Pleasanton Weekly, and a feature on Tri-Valley Community Television.

Jeter began as a rescue pup from the San Diego Humane Society, and experienced "love at first sight" with his mom Bennett. In Pleasanton, he loves strolling downtown and stopping at Inklings Coffee & Tea or Jersey Mike's on Bernal Avenue. At home, he's a diligent guard against backyard intruders, namely squirrels, and loves spending time with his doggie siblings Ruth and Yogi.

“Valley Humane Society has been a vital part of our community for more than 35 years, and we are proud to continue partnering with them to celebrate the Pleasanton Ambassadog,” Pleasanton Assistant City Manager Pamela Ott said in a statement. “Jeter’s role as this year’s Ambassadog showcases Pleasanton’s dog-friendly spirit while also highlighting the incredible work Valley Humane does to support and protect companion animals throughout the Tri-Valley.”

This year's Tail at Twilight gala on April 12 will not offer an ambassadog auction item, but it will offer several swanky items like a seven-night cycling tour through Italy or dinner for eight at Oyo. See here to purchase tickets, or call 925-426-8656 for more information.
