Pleasanton Police Investigate Suspected Auto Theft, Shooting

Police say a man confronted two people at his car then was pepper sprayed and heard a gunshot before firing back.

PLEASANTON, CA — A man shot at two people suspected of trying to steal his vehicle in the parking lot of the Canyon Meadows neighborhood in Pleasanton early Tuesday morning, according to a news release from the Pleasanton police department.

There were no injuries, the release said.

Police did not find the suspected thieves or provide descriptions.

Around 5 a.m., the man confronted two people looking inside and around his vehicle, according to the release. He was pepper sprayed and heard a gunshot close to him, the release said.

Legally in possession of a gun, the release said, the man then shot at the thieves multiple times before they drove off in a pickup truck.

Two vehicles in the parking lot were shot, the release said.
