PUSD 2nd Best District In Alameda County, Among Top 20 In CA: Niche
The district and its schools also have some of the best teachers in the region, according to the new rankings.
PLEASANTON, CA — Pleasanton Unified School District is the second best school district in Alameda County according to ranking website Niche. Though it was ranked 1st in 2024 and 2023, it was dethroned by Piedmont Unified School District for the county’s top spot.
However, Niche ranked it the best district to teach in Alameda County and the district in Alameda County with the best teachers. PUSD was also ranked as the 9th best school district in the Bay Area, and the 17th best in all of California. Its California ranking is an improvement from 2024, when it was ranked 19th in the state.

On its report card, the district scored an overall grade of A+, and scored an A+ in academics, teachers, and college prep. Its lowest scores were B- in resource & facilities and food, which improved from its C+ score last year.
Amador Valley High School was ranked the 3rd best public high school in Alameda County, down from its number two spot last year. It ranked 18th in the Bay Area, and 40th in California. It received an overall grade of A+, with A+ grades in academics, teachers, and college prep. Its lowest grades were C scores in resources & facilities and food.

Foothill High School usurped AVHS, scoring the spot of the 2nd best public high school in Alameda County (it ranked third last year). It was also ranked the county’s public high school with the best teachers. It ranked 14th in the Bay Area, and 44th in California. Like AVHS, it received an overall score of A+. Its teachers were ranked A+, and it received an A in academics, diversity, and college prep. Its lowest scores were a B- in resources & facilities and food.
Nearby, Dublin Unified School District also scored an overall grade of A+, and was ranked 4th in Alameda County, 13th in the Bay Area, and 42nd in California. Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District received an overall grade of A, and was ranked 9th in Alameda County, 25th in the Bay Area, and 98th in California. San Ramon Valley Unified School District was ranked the second best school district in Contra Costa County, the 11th best in the Bay Area, and 28th in California.
Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District was ranked the best school district in the Bay Area and the second best in California, overtaking Palo Alto Unified School District. La Cañada Unified School District was ranked the best in California, while Glenbrook High School District in suburban Chicago was ranked the best school district in the nation.
Rankings are calculated based on academic performance, test scores, input from students, alumni and parents, as well as quantitative data from sources such as the U.S. Department of Education.
