PLEASANTON, CA — Scott Adams, the creator of the famous comic strip “Dilbert” and a resident of Pleasanton, said Monday that he has the same metastatic prostate cancer that Joe Biden has, and that he has only months to live.

Adams, 67, said on a YouTube livestream that he has prostate cancer that has spread to his bones. He explained that he’s always in terrible pain and uses a walker.

“It’s basically intolerable,” he said, calling every day a “nightmare.” “I expect to be checking out from this domain sometime this summer.” He noted that he intends to get his affairs in order, then make use of an aid-in-dying medication legal in California for certain terminally ill patients.

In the livestream, Adams expressed sympathy for former President Joe Biden, despite being an outspoken Trump supporter. Biden was diagnosed Friday with an “aggressive” form of prostate cancer.

“I’d like to extend my respect and compassion and sympathy for the ex-president and his family because they’re going to be going through an especially tough time,” he said. “It’s a terrible disease — it’s going to get very painful for the president.”

Adams rose to fame in 1989 after creating the “Dilbert” comic strip, which satirizes the many absurdities and bureaucracy of corporate life. It became wildly popular throughout the 1990s, becoming a mainstay of newspapers and merchandise. It was even turned into a short-lived TV show.

However, this all came to an abrupt end in 2023 when Adams made controversial comments on race in a livestream. He described Black people as a “hate group,” said he would no longer “help Black Americans,” and advised white people to “get the hell away from Black people,” prompting newspapers and other media all over the world to drop the column. He has also questioned the death toll of the Holocaust, claimed people who didn’t get vaccinated were the “winners” of the COVID-19 pandemic, among other controversial statements.
