SEE: Pleasanton School Library Rebuilt After 2018 Fire

The Harvest Park Middle School library sustained major damage in a late-night fire, but is ready to serve students once more.

PLEASANTON, CA — More than two years after a blaze broke out in Pleasanton's Harvest Park Middle School library, the library has been rebuilt.

At a virtual ribbon-cutting ceremony held last month after four previous reschedulings, the library was at last revealed to students by Librarian Sue King and Principal Terry Brenner, who recalled how the library burned down right as she began serving in her current role.

"We've cherished some memories along the way and had some laughs, and ended up with a beautiful result that we can not wait to share with you guys," Brenner said.

The walls of the newly rebuilt library are lined with rows and rows of books, including many new reads, a "Genre of the Month" display and a large graphic novels section, King said.

The exterior features a chilled, filtered water bottle refill station.

King reminds students that they can still reserve books through the catalog for pickup, even though the library's doors remain closed.

"Can't wait to have you here," she said. "Welcome back."

The library sustained major fire, smoke and water damage in a July 3, 2018 blaze reported around 10:30 p.m. Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department crews made their way past locked gates and used more than 250 feet of fire hoses before finding the fire in the heart of the campus, at the library.

The blaze was extinguished in a half-hour, but flames had already crept up into the attic and breached the roof.

Thanks to Harvest Park Middle School Principal Terry Brenner and Librarian-extraordinaire Sue King for giving this...
