SigAlert Issued On 680 After Dump Truck Overturns: CHP

SUNOL, CA — The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert after a dump truck overturned and spilled dirt onto both sides of I-680 in Sunol. The left lanes on both northbound and southbound I-680 are closed from roughly downtown Pleasanton to the Fremont area. Traffic on westbound SR-84 is also at a standstill, according to a map from 511.org.

CHP said in a social media post that drivers should expect major delays as crews work to upright the truck and clear the freeway of dirt.

The crash occurred at 9:34 a.m. Thursday when the dump truck swerved to avoid a Tesla and then overturned, according to a CHP log. The truck overturned right at a concrete dividing line between northbound and southbound, according to a photo posted by CHP. The driver was of the truck was bleeding from the head with major injuries, according the log. The log does not mention injuries to the Tesla driver.
