SigAlert Issued On Southbound 680: CHP

An accident shortly before the quake snarled traffic on I-680 southbound between 580 and 84.

PLEASANTON, CA — The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert on I-680 southbound in Pleasanton following an accident. As of 11:46 a.m. Thursday, traffic is backed up in the southbound lane from roughly the 580 interchange to the intersection with SR 84, according to 511.org.

A Ford pickup truck crashed with a Honda Civic at around 10:03 a.m., according to a CHP log. A SigAlert was issued at 10:41 a.m. As of 11:16 a.m., only Lane 3 remains closed, but the 511 map still shows heavy traffic as of 11:51 a.m.

The crash happened shortly before a 7.0 earthquake struck the coast of Humboldt County, leading to a Tsunami Warning affecting the coast and significant transit delays.
