Triple Digits Expected In Pleasanton Saturday; Heat Advisory Issued

PLEASANTON, CA — July is certainly making its presence known in Pleasanton and across the state: temperatures are expected to climb up to triple digits Saturday in the first major heatwave of the year. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Pleasanton, interior portions of the East Bay, North Bay, South Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains, and interior Monterey and San Benito counties.

The advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. Friday until 11 p.m. Sunday.

In Pleasanton, temperatures are as high as 97 degrees Friday afternoon, but they feel closer to 107, according to Accuweather. Highs will reach 102 Saturday, but it will feel like 105. Sunday will drop to 98, and temperatures will begin cooling off Monday, when a high of 92 is projected. Anyone planning to go to the parade or enjoy a July 4 barbecue can rejoice: highs are expected to be a comparatively moderate 87 degrees on Tuesday. Highs in the low 80s and upper 70s are expected for the remainder of the week.

The inner East Bay can expect the highest temperatures, but the heatwave is baking most of California. San Jose, Fremont, Santa Rosa and Napa can all expect temperatures in the 90s, while Los Angeles is expected to climb into the upper 80s and low 90s.

The National Weather Service recommends the following safety tips to a public accustomed to a cooler-than-usual winter and spring:

• Drink plenty of fluids
• Avoid spending time outside if possible, and stay out of the sun
• Know the signs of heat stroke, which include a throbbing headache, confusion, nausea, dizziness, fever, strong pulse, fainting, and more
• Keep the air conditioning on
• Wear loose and lightweight clothing
• Never leave young children or pets unattended in a vehicle

The community is welcome to escape the heat at any town or county facility during regular operating hours, including:

• Pleasanton Library, open 10-5 Friday and Saturday, closed Sunday
• Amador Recreation Center, open until 5 p.m. Friday, closed weekends
• Ruby Hill Community Center, open until 4 p.m. Friday, closed weekends
• Pleasanton Senior Center, open until 4 p.m. Friday, closed weekends
