Murder-Suicide Suspect Shoots Himself On 580
A man accused of shooting a Pleasanton woman shot himself to death following an extended chase that shut down I-580.

PLEASANTON, CA — The Pleasanton Police Department is investigating a murder-suicide that began on Saginaw Circle around 11:10 a.m. Thursday, and ended on the side of I-580.
Police say that a woman was found inside the home, unresponsive, with multiple gunshot wounds. The area around W. Las Positas Drive and Apache Drive was secured, the Pleasanton Police Department tweeted at 11:36 a.m.
Officers followed a suspect vehicle onto I-580 westbound until the car broke down on the freeway near Benedict Drive in San Leandro. Several other agencies, including the California Highway Patrol, San Leandro Police Department, and Alameda County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist.

A severe traffic alert was issued and I-580 was closed in both directions for roughly two hours as officers attempted to communicate with the suspect. When officers approached the vehicle, they saw that the suspect had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Traffic has since reopened on the eastbound lanes of 580, and most of the westbound lanes.

Pleasanton police said this appears to be an isolated incident with no danger to the community. The department said it is in the early stages of investigating the incident, and anticipates providing more info within the next 24 hours.
