Update: Man in Custody Following Standoff With Sheriff’s Deputies
The man was armed and threatening to kill himself in a home on Powers Road.

An armed man threatening suicide in a home on Powers Road is in custody following a Monday-afternoon standoff that lasted several hours. The man was led away from the home in handcuffs around 7 p.m.
A sheriff’s spokesman said the man indicated that the home in the 13000 block of Powers Street may be booby-trapped, possibly with explosives. Bomb squad personnel may be called to the home to investigate.

An armed man threatening to kill himself in a residence in the 13000 block of Powers Road is negotiating with sheriff’s deputies, who have set up a perimeter around the home.

A crisis negotiator is on the scene talking with the man, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
“There is no crime at this time, he’s just threatening to kill himself and he doesn’t want to put the weapon down,” said Lt. Paul Robbins. “We’re negotiating with him to put the weapon down and to come out.”
Deputies can see and hear the man and have been communicating with him over the phone, Robbins said.
