BGR The Burger Joint Opens Poway Store

Today is Opening Day for Poway’s newest burger joint, appropriately named BGR The Burger Joint.

Located a few doors down from , Poway’s BGR is one of only two locations in California, with the other in Point Loma. The menu includes a variety of burgers to choose from, including a lobster roll and something called The 9 Pounder.

The menu recommends that The 9 Pounder feed 10 to 15 people, but if one person can eat it in one sitting it’s free. Better bring your appetite if you intend to conquer The 9 Pounder, because after including the bun and condiments, it actually weighs 15.4 pounds. BGR asks for a 24-hour notice for the $79.99 beast, which comes with two heads of lettuce, eight tomatoes, three red onions, four whole pickles and “a river of our mojo.”

The first Poway customers got an early taste during a soft opening Wednesday afternoon. Co-owner Richard Jones welcomed those who formed a line outside the storefront next to the Starbucks. Once inside they sat at tables with mosaic patterns depicting peace signs and classic-rock album covers, which also adorn the blue and red walls.

A soda dispenser that resembles a jukebox has an almost-endless number of varieties, and Jones said BGR is in the process of obtaining a license to serve beer and wine.

Poway waited for years for , now another acclaimed name in the burger wars has opened in town.
