Brush Fire Breaks Out Near Metate Lane

A brush fire that began around 12:45 p.m. in a canyon near Metate Lane and Montauk Street burned about eight acres, but nobody was injured and nothing was damaged, according to the Poway Fire Department.

Eight different agencies and more than 100 firefighters on the ground and in aircraft responded to the fire, which was contained at 2 p.m., said Jon Canavan, division chief of Poway Fire. A crew will remain at the scene through the evening mopping up hot spots, Canavan said.

Two air-tanker planes and two helicopters assisted in putting out the fire. 

A cause of the fire has not been released. Roads closed because of the fire were re-opened by 5 p.m.

Poway Fire was assisted by San Diego Fire-Rescue, CalFire, MCAS Miramar, Santee Fire, the Sheriff’s Department, SDG&E and Poway Public Works.
