8 of 10 Costliest U.S. Wildfires Burned in California
The wildfires burning in Colorado will result in thousands of insurance claims.

Wildfires in Colorado have burned hundreds of homes and forced more than 30,000 residents around Colorado Springs to evacuate their neighborhoods. More than 1,000 firefighters are battling the blazes fanned by windy, hot weather.
With only 5 percent of the Waldo Canyon Fire contained as of Wednesday and other fires burning around Boulder, the Insurance Information Institute reports that this summer’s fires have caused the most property-loss damage in the state’s history.
North County residents know the dangers of wildfires all too well. The 2007 Witch Fire claimed around 90 homes in Poway and the 2003 Cedar Fire that began south of Ramona burned homes from Scripps Ranch to Crest.
