Heat Advisory In Effect In Poway

POWAY, CA — A heat advisory was in effect Monday in parts of San Diego County.

The heat advisory was slated until 8 p.m. for the county valleys, including the cities of El Cajon, Escondido, La Mesa, Poway, San Marcos and Santee.

Temperatures could reach as high as 103 degrees in the valley areas, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures were expected to reach 93 degrees in Poway. It was expected to be slightly cooler on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Forecasters warned hot weather can cause heat-related illnesses.

Weather officials recommended people drink plenty of fluids, wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Officials also reminded residents that young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles.

"Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke," officials said. "Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 911."
