Heat Advisory Extended For Poway

POWAY, CA — A heat advisory remains in effect for Poway as a summer heat wave continues to bring hot temperatures to parts of San Diego County.

An excessive heat warning for the county deserts has been extended through 8 p.m. Thursday. High temperatures are expected between 115 to 120 degrees, with overnight lows between 85 to 90 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

A heat advisory for the valleys and mountains below 6,000 feet has also been extended through 8 p.m. Wednesday, with high temperatures expected in the 90s to 100s, the NWS said. The advisory includes the city of Poway.

"Hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses to occur," forecasters warned.

Weather officials urged residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. "Cool Zone" locations are open across the county to help people beat the heat.

"Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside," forecasters said. "When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening."

Forecasters also reminded residents that young children and pets should be never be left unattended in vehicles, with interiors able to reach deadly temperatures in minutes.
