In the letter, Graeff notes that students will be walking into schools that are celebrating their highest test scores in the district's history. He refers to an API gain of 22 points and an overall API score of 809 for the district. Graeff writes that this is the highest gain in San Diego county for districts with more than 200 students.
Graeff also notes that the state's fiscal challenges will provide "significant hurdles" to what can be accomplished in local schools. He writes that, as staff focus on teaching 21st century skills they will be "trying to do more with less."
