Do You Have Money Sitting at the County?
About $250,000—most of it property tax refunds—is sitting unclaimed.

About $250,000 in unclaimed refunds is waiting to be claimed from the County of San Diego. Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister urges anyone who has done business with the county recently to check to see if they are on the list.
About 900 accounts of both individuals and businesses contain money that can be claimed, McAllister said. More than half the amount is from property tax refunds.
"We have been diligently searching for the owners of these monies and have had no luck,'' McAllister said. "We hope that the owners come forward and claim their refunds before the October 14 deadline.''
After that date, any unclaimed funds will go into the county's coffers. State law requires a waiting period of four years on property tax refunds and three years for other unclaimed funds.
McAllister said the largest refund is $16,800 to the estate of the late Elizabeth Beal, and the smallest is $10.02.
