Update: 2,135-Acre Great Fire Is 100 Percent Contained.

Rain fell on the scorched area Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

Firefighters have established 100 percent containment around the Great Fire between Julian and Scissors Crossing.

The began Saturday and spread across land owned by California State Parks and Bureau of Land Management.

Rain fell on the scorched area Tuesday and Wednesday nights and many resources and personnel were demobilized Wednesday, Cal Fire reported.

Cal Fire initially reported the burned acreage at 2,000 acres, but as they were able to do more accurate mapping, they updated that to 2,135 acres on Wednesday.

On Monday, all evacuation advisories were lifted and all roads were re-opened. The Pacific Crest Trail (in the fire affected areas) and Rodriguez Truck Trail remained closed during the firefighting effort.

Cal Fire ordered an evacuation advisory on Sunday for areas east and south of Julian. The calls went out via reverse 911. The agency was taking precautions by asking people to be prepared if asked to leave and not wait until the last minute. However, no evacuations were necessary the Sheriff's Department reported Sunday night.

The evacuation advisory went out to the following areas:

Shelter Valley
Kentwood #1 and #2
Whispering Pines
Pine Crest Campground
Banner
KQ Ranch
Harrison Park

Also, Highway 78 from Wynola Road on the Banner side to just west of S-2 at Scissors Crossing was closed to traffic Sunday afternoon. It was re-opened Monday.

Crews worked to protect 25 residences in the Mastro Trailer Ranch that were threatened Sunday. No structures were threatened as of Monday morning.

Cal Fire expects to have the fire fully contained on Thursday.

The brush fire began in light grasses Saturday in the Banner area, south of Highway 78 and west of S-2, which is also known as the Great Southern Overland Stage Route of 1849. The cause is under investigation.

Up to 1,486 fire personnel worked on the fire.
