Hiker Injures Ankle Near Cedar Creek Falls

The 20-year-old female gets a lift from a sheriff's helicopter out of a canyon.

A hiker injured her ankle near Cedar Creek Falls southeast of Ramona Sunday afternoon and was flown by a sheriff’s helicopter to an area near the San Vicente golf course, where Ramona Fire Department personnel tended to her injuries, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department.

The 20-year-old female was hiking around 2:40 p.m. when the injury occurred. CalFire crews contacted the injured hiker among the large number of people on the trails in the area, determined that she had sprained her ankle and was unable to make the long hike back up the hill to the Ramona side of the canyon, according to the Sheriff's Department.

The hiker’s ankle was stabilized with a splint and she was assisted onto the helicopter. The severity of the sprain or whether she was hospitalized was not released by the Sheriff’s Department.
