Anne-Marie Slaughter raises issue in 12,700-word essay and analysis in article that went viral.
Former State Department official Anne-Marie Slaughter set off a bomb with her recent article in The Atlantic titled “Why Women Still Can’t Have it All,” a study of work-life balance for career women in leadership positions.
Her 12,700-word piece told of why she left Washington for her old job at Princeton—to be home for her troubled 14-year-old son. Slaughter wrote: “You should be able to have a family if you want one—however and whenever your life circumstances allow—and still have the career you desire.”
But she’d like society to help. Is “having it all” possible in our male-dominated culture?
