Possible 'Safe Zones' in Ramona and San Diego Country Estates

Ramona's evacuation plan lists five locations where people could possibly assemble briefly and be relatively safe in a disaster.

Ramona has an evacuation plan created by several local government agencies, which lists "safe zones" — possible places where residents could go for a few hours and be relatively safe in the event of an emergency.

Whether a place is actually "safe" would depend on the type and location of the emergency. As mentioned at the recent Evacuation Forum held in Ramona, agencies don't like to tell people ahead of a disaster where to go following an emergency, such as a fire, because they can't predict the direction of the wind, for example, or the structural safety of buildings.

However, the Community Protection and Evacuation Plan (attached to this story as a PDF file) does name five "safe zones" with large lots and open spaces, which residents should note just in case. Residents can print a version of the evacuation plan off Ramona Patch by clicking on the picture of the plan and clicking on "Print" above it after the file opens.
