Cox Cares, the community outreach arm of Cox Communications in south Orange County, will close off nominations for the company’s Conservation Champions program at 5 p.m. today. Online voting will take place March 28 to April 11.

The awards will honor individuals who work to create, preserve, improve or enhance the shared outdoor places in their communities. Volunteers of all ages who live within the phone, cable television and Internet provider's service area may apply or be nominated.

Cox Orange Coast will honor two champions, a minor and an adult, who will be selected through online voting and honored on Earth Day, April 22.

A panel of Cox associates and civic leaders within Cox Orange Coast’s conservation field will select six finalists—three for each of the adult and minor categories. Cox Cares will feature profiles of the finalists, and the public can vote online for two champions.

First-, second- and third-place winners in each category will receive $2,500, $1,000 or $500, respectively, to donate to a local environmental nonprofit organization of their choice within the service area of Cox Orange Coast. The organization must be a registered 501(c)(3).
