Football: Trabuco Hills 21, Fountain Valley 14

Trabuco Hills didn't need big plays as much as it needed a bunch of little ones on Friday night.

The outcome in danger of getting away from them, the Mustangs burned the clock when they needed to and held on for a 21-14 nonleague victory over visiting Fountain Valley.

It was the fourth victory in five games for Trabuco, whose only loss this season was to the Santa Margarita Catholic, which is ranked No. 1 in the nation by ESPN. Since losing big, 55-0, the Mustangs have beaten Sunset League opponents Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley.

Jordan Hettinger rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown to lead Trabuco's ground attack, which also got two short touchdown runs from Chris Reck.

The Mustangs scored on their first two possessions and took a 21-7 lead in the fourth quarter. Fountain Valley cut the deficit to 21-14 when Jason Baker fell on the ball in the end zone after Wyatt Christensen fumbled near the goal line on a 5-yard pass from Chris d'Entremont.

Trabuco's ensuing possession, a total of 10 plays, ran out the final 5 minutes 48 seconds of the game.

Fountain Valley had pulled to 14-7 midway in the third quarter on 43-yard scoring pass from d'Entremont to Ryan Finley.

It was another tight win for the Mustangs, who have three victories—over Dana Hills, Newport Harbor and Fountain Valley—by seven points or less. The Mustangs (4-1) play next week against JSerra (4-0) at Saddleback College.

Trabuco quarterback Nathan Perry had a big night along with Hettinger. Perry completed 11 of 17 passes for 174 yards.

Fountain Valley (3-2) is off next week; the Barons play at Huntington Beach (2-3) on Oct. 5 in the Sunset League opener.
