Kung Fu Panda 2 Kicks Off Busy Weekend at Park
Central Park will be a flurry of activity this weekend, beginning with SAMLARC's free presentation of a movie at dusk. Bounce houses and face painting are also part of the activities.
Movies in the Park, a presentation of SAMLARC, will kick off a busy weekend at Central Park.Â
The first movie in the summer series will be presented Friday at dusk, with the showing of Kung Fu Panda 2, sequel to the highly successful movie of the same name. The show will go on even if light rain persists, and "will only be cancelled in the event of thunder/lightning storms," according to SAMLARC.
A number of kids activities beginning at 6:30 p.m. precede the movie, shown on an 11- by 19-foot screen. Included are bounce houses, face painting and coloring. The movie should begin about 7:50 p.m. but participants will want to arrive earlier.

The following morning, Saturday, begins the 24-hour Relay For Life to benefit the American Cancer Society, and . The Relay ends Sunday morning, and Sunday night the rock anthem cover band World Tour appears at the park to provide a rousing kickoff to the Summer Concerts Series.
The movie nights continue on July 20 with the presentation of Cars 2, and on Aug. 17 with the movie for grown-ups night—no kids allowed—with the showing of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Participants can bring camping chairs and picnic dinners. The movie will be shown at the outdoor theater.
