Updated: Paranoid Man Meets the Cops

A rocket scientist makes all the wrong moves while trying to avoid the cops.

Editor's note: Updates with police contact with the subject.

You know those yellow and black books that are for dummies? Well, one Rancho Santa Margarita man could really learn a thing or two about laying low.

It happened at the Villas Antonio apartment complex, in the laundry room to be exact. It was there that a man—apparently not a brain surgeon—began asking people if police officers were outside looking for him, according to a resident.

After the man drew attention to himself, residents promptly called the Orange County Sheriff's Department to report the paranoid man, who was wearing dark clothing and was hiding out in the laundry room near the main office.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found the subject asleep inside the laundry room.

According to Sgt. Frank Nin of Rancho Santa Margarita police services, the paranoid man was not on parole or probation, and there was no warrant for his arrest; the man was waiting to meet a friend, but realized that he was in the wrong apartment complex. The man eventually met his friend in the correct building.

The call came in around midnight on Friday, from the 22400 block of Alma Aldea.
