Pencil Pugilist Has A Night Worth Erasing

An elderly patient decides he has had enough.

By Martin Henderson

Getting old can be tough, but some older members of society can be tough themselves.

For instance, take the elderly man in Rancho Santa Margarita who armed himself with a pencil. No word on whether it was No. 2 lead or not, but suffice it to say it had a pointy end.

According to the blotter of the Orange County Sheriff's Department, a 74-year-old patient at the facility was wandering around outside in the middle of the night and being uncooperative. Worse, he armed himself with the pencil as a means of leaving the premises.

He allegedly threatened to use the pencil to hurt anyone who got close to him, including staff.

The man eventually went back inside by the time sheriff deputies arrived to detain him and get everything straightened out.

The call was made Monday, 2:45 a.m., from the 21900 block of Buena Suerte.

This report was culled from the Orange County Sheriff's website. Not all facts in each report are made public; the outcome of the report, as well as the facts, may differ from the original blotter item. All items are alleged to have occurred. There should be no assumption of guilt based on this limited information.
