'Possible Gang Activity' in Rancho Santa Margarita?

A number of subjects took their fight to Santa Margarita Parkway.

If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck, is it?

There was possible gang activity early Sunday morning in Rancho Santa Margarita when an informant notified the Orange County Sheriff of a fight that had spilled onto Santa Margarita Parkway. 

The incident, reported at 1:24 a.m., occurred north of Antonio Parkway.

According to the caller, there were 10 subjects fighting in the street. However, no weapons were seen by the informant. When sheriff deputies arrived on scene within four minutes all the participants had scattered.

Those involved were described by the informant as "possible gang types."

Sgt. Frank Nin of RSM police services said it was unlikely that the incident was gang-related.

"We’ve been very fortunate that we haven’t seen any gang activity here," he said. "It would be very evident because you’d see gang graffiti on the wall. That’s how they mark their territory. We’re very fortunate, knock on wood, that it hasn’t gone on here—and if it does we’ll nip it right away."
