RSM Man Shot By Police After Allegedly Killing Woman For Car, Video Shows: Police

Video of a 31-year-old Rancho Santa Margarita man firing at police while running toward an In-N-Out Burger in Laguna Hills was released.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A 31-year-old South Orange County man suspected of shooting a woman to death during a carjacking in Carlsbad fired at police while running toward an In-N-Out Burger in Laguna Hills, according to dash- and body-worn camera footage shared Tuesday by the Newport Beach Police Department.

The incident started late Friday, Sept. 19, when Carlsbad police were called to an apartment complex in the 2300 block of Rising Glen Way after receiving reports of gunfire.

Officers arrived at around 9:53 p.m. and found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She died at the scene, with police saying her vehicle had been stolen during the attack.

She was identified as April Moore, 50, of Carlsbad.

Just after midnight, a license plate reader in Laguna Beach detected the stolen vehicle traveling on the freeway. The driver was located by Newport Beach Police Officers early the next morning, and when the driver failed to stop for police, a pursuit ensued.

The footage shows the suspect, identified as Andre Anthony Matijasevic, running toward a nearby In-N-Out Burger while continuing to shoot at officers.

Police returned fire, and the suspect is seen falling to the ground in the restaurant's parking lot.

In the video, Newport Beach Police Sgt. Steve Oberon said the suspect continued firing from the ground.

The video shows officers approaching and separating the suspect from his handgun before starting life-saving measures until paramedics arrived.

Matijasevic was taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, where he was pronounced dead. No officers were injured in the shooting.
