Santa Margarita Catholic High Students Partake In Mock DUI Event

Students at Santa Margarita Catholic School in RSM participated in a mock DUI presentation held in part by the Orange County Fire Authority.

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA — Students at Santa Margarita Catholic High School received the lesson of their lives Monday afternoon as the Orange County Fire Authority held a mock DUI crash intended to simulate the many dangers of drunk driving.

The event is designed to teach students about the dangers of drinking or texting while driving, and is showcased by a mock car crash with an overturned vehicle.

Several actors participated in the event and portrayed students involved in a DUI incident.

At the event, firefighters used the "Jaws of Life" and simulated treatment of traumatic and fatal injury patients.

All the while, deputies with the Orange County Sheriff's Department held field sobriety tests for those involved in the "crash."

The mock DUI crash was held in collaboration with the Orange County Fire Authority, Friends Against Drunk Driving, the Orange County Fire Authority, the California Highway Patrol, Mission Hospital, Trauma Intervention Program, O'Connor Mortuary, Care Ambulance and Aliso Viejo Towing.
