Tesoro Football Hits Field for First Time

Brian Barnes is full of energy as Titans try to exceed last year's semifinal fun.

The high school football season doesn't begin for a couple of weeks, but Tesoro began practicing on Wednesday at Titan Stadium.

Led by quarterback Matt Adam, running back Nate Tago and receiver/defensive back Kyle Woolbright, the Titans are expected to be one of the top teams in Orange County this season. On Wednesday, under the bellowing of enthusiastic coach Brian Barnes, they took the field for the first time.

The team's high expectations aren't just because of Adam, a four-year starter and Tago but because of the large number of returners they have on both sides of the ball. And they are returners with sizeable experience.

Last season, the Titans (8-5) upset Servite—becoming the first Southern Section team to beat the two-time Pac-5 champion Friars in the playoffs since 2008—and advanced to the section semifinals.

They were one of four South Orange County teams to reach the Pac-5 semifinals; along with Tesoro, two were South Coast League teams, Mission Viejo and San Clemente; and Santa Margarita from the Trinity League.
