RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA — Tesoro High School's Acappella Group "Titanium" is seeking assistance getting to the national finals in New York City in April, according to the choral department.

"Titanium is looking for local sponsorship to help them pay for their Acappella Group of 18 performers to compete in NYC," said Choral Booster President Co-Chair Randee Walker. The total estimated cost for travel and expenses is about $18,000 and the group is offering performances in exchange for immediate sponsorship, Walker said.

There are 250 Acappella teams in the country that started in the competition and only the top 7 have made it to the finals in New York City.

Under the direction of Director and Grammy Award Winner Keith Hancock and Choral Coach Tesoro Alumni Erin Theodorakis, Tesoro High School has had a contemporary Acappella group since 2000. In 2019, Titanium became the official Acappella group of Tesoro High School. The group has since released several videos and songs on social platforms.

It was earlier this year that Titanium submitted a video as an entry to the west coast quarter International Competition for High School Acappella (ICHSA) as part of Varsity Vocals in Burbank, according to Walker.

They were selected and came in third place which advanced them to the semi-finals. They had only two weeks to improve their set which they performed at the semifinals in El Segundo.

"Their commitment paid off when they placed first in the semi-finals advancing them to the National finals in NYC in just four weeks, on April 27th," Walker said. Performing a selection of songs including Kate Bush's 1980s single "Running Up That Hill: A Deal With God," Journey's "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart), and Corey Heart's "Never Surrender," the group won the judges over.
