Redding council hires new city manager from Concord (redding.com) — Redding is set to bring in Concord public works director William Tarbox as its next city manager, pending a background check, with a start date expected by February 2026. City leaders say they wanted someone who understands Redding’s laws and contracts and can tackle homelessness, road conditions, and crime as he replaces retired manager Barry Tippin.
   

2. Over some objections, Shasta has new Board of Supervisors chair (redding.com) — Shasta County supervisors have chosen Chris Kelstrom as the new board chair for 2026 after a split vote that sidelined Supervisor Matt Plummer’s bid for the role. The decision sparked debate over leadership style and Plummer’s support for Redding’s failed Measure A sales tax, highlighting ongoing tensions about how to fund local services and manage county priorities.
   

3. Redding Police target shoplifters, address community issues (krcrtv.com) — Redding Police are stepping up retail theft enforcement, stationing plainclothes and uniformed officers in local stores while also cracking down on camping, drug use, and other quality-of-life issues on the east side. Officers say consistent weekly or biweekly efforts, combined with tougher penalties under Proposition 36, aim to support local businesses, residents, and holiday shoppers.
   

4. Redding firefighter wins Disney World trip on 'Wheel of Fortune' (krcrtv.com) — A Redding Fire Department firefighter, Bob Diaz, recently appeared on “Wheel of Fortune” and won a family trip to Walt Disney World, complete with airfare, hotel, and park passes. The lifelong fan shared how surreal filming felt, celebrated with a home watch party, and now encourages other locals to apply for game shows and enjoy the unique experience.
   

5. First 5 Shasta hosts open house to thank partners, introduce Dolly Parton Library Program (krcrtv.com) — Families with young children in Redding now have a new way to build home libraries, thanks to First 5 Shasta’s launch of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library at its Redding office. At a holiday open house, the group thanked partners and explained how local kids under five can receive a free book by mail every month to boost early literacy and bonding.
