Hathaway Fire East of Redlands Remains at 3,807 Acres, Now 63 Percent Contained
The Hathaway Fire was reported before noon Sunday June 9 on Morongo Indian Reservation and burned north into the mountains. Time-lapse video from a Bens Weather camera north of the San Gorgonio Wilderness shows smoke from the fire a week ago today.

Update 6:55 p.m. The week-old Hathaway Fire in mountains east of Redlands and northeast of Banning remained at 3,807 acres Sunday evening, and crews had the burned area 63 percent contained, according to an update from incident commanders in Beaumont.
There were 967 personnel assigned to the fire as of 6:50 p.m. June 16. A forecast for the burned area for Sunday night calls for temps in the upper 50s to upper 60s depending on elevation, 50 to 60 percent relative humidity levels, and northwest winds of 2 to 3 miles per hour.
Full containment is still expected by June 25.
Posted 8:45 a.m. Cooler, damper weather has helped fire crews stop growth of the Hathaway Fire burning in the mountains northeast of Banning for the time being, and the fire was mapped at an estimated 3,807 acres as of 7 a.m. Sunday June 16.
One week after the fire first broke out, acreage on the fire was reduced slightly overnight, down from 3,816 Saturday evening, and the blaze was still considered 52 percent contained.
A total of 1,031 personnel were assigned to the fire as of Sunday morning, incident commanders in Beaumont said in an update. Nine firefighters had sustained minor injuries on the Hathaway Fire as of June 16.

A target date for full containment of the Hathaway Fire has been set for June 25, but incident commander Don Garwood released a letter addressed to the public on Thursday stating "There is no way of knowing exactly when we will finish our work."
The cause of the fire was said to be under investigation.

Agencies on the fire include the U.S. Forest Service, Cal-Fire Riverside County, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the Morongo Band of Mission Indians, and Morongo Tribal Bureau of Indian Affairs. Fire camp remained at Noble Creek Park in Beaumont.
