Map: Compare Emergency Room Treatment Times

The below map shows emergency room treatment times across the state including nearby Redlands Community Hospital. The yellow markers are hospitals within 10 percent of the state average, the green are faster and the reds are slower.

If you had to go to the emergency room do you have any idea how long it would take to get treated?

Yesterday, we gave you a graphic on how quickly you could expect to get pain pills in local hospitals and how fast you can get admitted.  The above map gives you an idea of how fast you might expect to get treated and released for an injury that does not require hospitalization.

The data is broken down into a variety of categories, but the map above shows a very crucial one: how long will it take from the time you get to the emergency room to getting treated and sent home?

In the map above you can visually compare hospitals across the state very easily - the yellow markers are hospitals which are within 10 percent of the state average time of 173 minutes.  The red markers are ones which take longer and the green ones are ones which are at least 10 percent faster than the average hospital.

Some hospitals have not provided the data to the feds - any that don't show up on the map have not reported an answer.

Locally, Redlands Community Hospital is slightly below average at 187 minutes, Loma Linda University Medical Center is well below average at 324 minutes and St. Bernardine's is well above average at 108 minutes.

The numbers only include patients who are sent home and not admitted to the hospital as inpatients.

There are many other metrics that the federal report considers - how long to admit emergency room patients who need to become inpatients, how long to see a medical professional upon arriving in the E.R. and how long a person suffering a broken bone would take to get pain pills.

You can see how the three local hospitals listed above did in those metrics in the pdf table that accompanies this article. For much more data visit the federal government's Medicare.gov Hospital Compare website.
