World’s Largest Taekwondo event of 2025 draws thousands to Ontario
The five-day event drew more than 3,400 registered competitors, 600 coaches and nearly 9,200 spectators
(ONTARIO, California, August 6, 2025) – The Ontario Convention Center was the epicenter of national martial arts action last month as it hosted the 2025 U.S. Taekwondo National Championships, the largest Taekwondo competition in the world this year.
The prestigious five-day event, held July 23–27, drew more than 3,400 registered competitors, 600 coaches and nearly 9,200 spectators from 44 states, affirming Ontario’s growing status as a premier sports destination in Southern California.
“Ontario proved to be an outstanding host city for this year’s National Championships,” said Christine Strong Simmons, Managing Director of Operations for USA Taekwondo. “The Ontario Convention Center is a beautiful facility with walkable hotels and amenities, and the support we received from GOCAL and GOSPORTS was second to none. Their team worked tirelessly to ensure an exceptional experience for athletes and attendees alike. In fact, as soon as the event concluded, we were already identifying future events to bring back to Ontario.”

The event’s success adds to a growing list of major national and international sporting competitions held in the region. Ontario also recently secured the 2025 U.S. Table Tennis Nationals and continues to expand its global sports footprint.
“Southern California’s Ontario is fast becoming one of the most dynamic sports destinations on the West Coast,” said Michael Krouse, President and CEO of Greater Ontario California (GOCAL). “Hosting an event of this caliber is a tremendous honor, and it’s a testament to the talent of our team, the quality of our venues, and the hospitality of our community.”

GOCAL, in partnership with the Greater Ontario Sports & Entertainment Authority (GOSPORTS), has strategically positioned the region as a leader in sports tourism. The Toyota Arena, home to the LA Kings’ minor league affiliate the Ontario Reign, continues to draw large crowds for hockey, concerts and indoor sports. Meanwhile, the newly announced Ontario Sports Empire is now under construction and will become the largest sports complex of its kind west of the Rockies. Anchored by a new minor league baseball stadium – future home of the Dodgers Class A franchise – the complex is scheduled to open in time for the 2026 season.
