Air Traffic Over South Bay May Increase Temporarily Tuesday

An FAA test of new computer systems may result in more air traffic directed over the South Bay.

South Bay residents all the way down to the Palos Verdes Peninsula may hear increased jet noise Tuesday morning as the Federal Aviation Administration tests its new computer system at the Los Angeles Air Route Traffic Control Center facility, according to a notice from the airport.

The test—which affects Easterly Operations, or aircraft arriving and departing to the east—is scheduled for Tuesday from 4:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m., though it may be delayed a day or two due to weather conditions, according to environmental specialist David Chan of the Los Angeles World Airports Noise Management Section.

"Persons living to the east of the airport may notice a change in aircraft flight activity and additional noise during this test," Chan wrote. "Departing aircraft will fly over the communities to the east, as well as areas to the north and south depending on the aircraft's destination."
