Athens Services Promotes Composting

New refuse hauler Athens Services will take over waste collection in Redondo Beach on Friday.

Along with lower fees for some households, Athens Services is instituting a new curbside compost collection in Redondo Beach when it becomes the Friday.

In addition to the recycling and trash bins the company will provide, customers will also receive a green cart for yard trimmings, food scraps and food-soiled paper, according to an email alert from the city of Redondo Beach.

Yard trimmings include grass clippings, leaves, brush, branches and other organic materials from landscapes or gardens; however, palm fronds, yucca plants, cactus and other succulents should not be added to the green bins, the city said.
