Behind the Crossing Guard Sign: Doug

In his new multimedia series, photographer Adam Silver takes a look behind the signs of South Bay residents.

Meet Doug. He's been a crossing guard since April 2006.

"You just do what you need to do and keep the kids safe," he explains in an audio slideshow by local photographer Adam Silver.

The audio slideshow is the first in a series about South Bay residents who carry signs for a living.

"From those on the side of the freeway entrances to those spinning the ever present 'SELL GOLD' or 'LIBERTY TAX' signs, anyone who I come across that is holding a sign might just be profiled," Silver explains in a blog post on his site.
