Blotter: Chair Causes Bomb Scare

A gaming chair abandoned on the sidewalk in front of 2222 Manhattan Beach Blvd. in North Redondo Beach midday Oct. 7 forced evacuations and brought the bomb squad to the area, according to a report from the .
The chair, which none of the neighbors claimed, was ripped in the back and had a wooden box affixed to the inside with wires attached.
Because the object was left near 's Space Park, Redondo Beach police closed the street and called in the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Bob Squad.

The Bomb Squad examined the chair and decided it did not contain any explosives.

A person walking home Oct. 7 in the 2800 block of Pinckard Avenue noticed a strange car in one of the driveways and a woman hanging near the house's door, police said. Shortly after, a man with a large "LA" tattoo on his neck walked out of the house.
It looked like the man was hiding something under a coat in his arms, the witness told police. The man and women left in a maroon 2005 Lexus sedan with paper plates, and the witness tried to follow while contacting the police.
Officers weren't able to catch the pair, police said.
Police later discovered that one of the two had crawled through a broken garage window and stolen jewelry from the home, including a baroque pearl set, a Tag watch and a Cartier watch.
The witness described the burglars as a 30-year-old Hispanic man standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 180 pounds. He had black hair and brown eyes.
The other burglar was a 30-year-old Hispanic woman standing about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 130 pounds. She had black hair and brown eyes.
Illegal U-turn leads to drug arrest
The smell of fresh marijuana led one patrol officer to discover more than 100 grams of marijuana, more than 100 grams of psilocybin mushrooms and miscellaneous pills in a person's car Oct. 8, police said.
The officer first noticed the car after the driver made an illegal U-turn. Police arrested the driver on suspicion of possessing drugs to sell.
Fisherman falls from Redondo Beach Pier
A fisherman was not injured after he fell from the on Oct. 11, Redondo Beach police told the Daily Breeze. Apparently, the wire cable strung across the top of the fencing he was standing on broke.
The fisherman held onto a piling until the Harbor Patrol rescued him.
