Captain Washed Overboard Near Pier

A bystander rescues a sailboat captain whose boat hit the rocks near Kincaid's.

paramedics and Los Angeles County lifeguards helped a boat captain Thursday evening who had been washed overboard by a large wave, according to a news release from the Fire Department.

Captain David Glenn, 47, was sailing from Long Beach to Marina Del Rey when he hit rough weather, according to the news release. He tried to find shelter in King Harbor but couldn't get through the entrance and hit the rocks near on the .

Chris Keenan, a bystander, apparently saw Glenn in the water and jumped in the chilly water to help him out, authorities said.

The Fire Department—including the Harbor Patrol—responded to a 911 call shortly before 7 p.m. and arrived at the scene less than five minutes later.  Paramedics treated Glenn for minor cuts and scrapes from the rocks, and helped Glenn and Keenan warm up.

Glenn's 27-foot sailboat broke up on the rocks and sunk.
