Car Chase Winds Through Redondo

The chase, which began in Hermosa Beach and ended on foot in Manhattan Beach, culminated in the arrest of Danny Chance.

A high-speed chase that briefly wound its way through South Redondo Beach ended Thursday morning in Manhattan Beach with the arrest of Danny Chance of Pico Nuevo on suspicion of vehicle theft, evading a police officer and burglary, according to the Hermosa Beach Police Department.

During the chase—which began after a Hermosa Beach police officer recognized Chance, who was driving an apparently stolen minivan, as matching the description of the person who burglarized a vehicle earlier that morning—Chance hit speeds of 90 mph and ran red lights and stop signs, according to HBPD Sgt. Robert Higgins.

The chase began near the intersection of Eighth Street and Valley Drive in Hermosa Beach. Chance evaded a traffic stop, police said, and wove through Hermosa Beach streets and southbound onto Pacific Coast Highway into Redondo Beach. He drove through Redondo Beach, and sped out of the city on Harbor Drive, which becomes Hermosa Avenue at the city border.
