CHP Chase Winds Through Redondo

Lights and sirens from a police pursuit wake up North Redondo Beach residents.

A police chase that began in Huntington Park ended in Torrance near North Redondo Beach on Thursday night after the driver led police off the freeways onto surface streets in Torrance and Redondo Beach, television station KTLA reported.

Huntington Park police received a call about a suspicious parked car, and when officers found the car, the driver took off, Sgt. Conrad Cacon of the Huntington Park Police Department told City News Service.

The car, a red Chevrolet Corsica with no license plates, averaged between 40 and 50 mph as vehicles from the Huntington Park Police Department and California Highway Patrol pursued it on the 110 and 405 Freeways.

CHP officers apparently followed it northbound on Meyer Lane and Inglewood Avenue and eastbound on Artesia Boulevard into northwest Torrance. Officers stopped the driver with a pit maneuver on Artesia Boulevard by the 405 Freeway by about 10:45 p.m.

The driver was arrested without incident, though it was unclear why he fled in the first place, according to KTLA.
