City Coin to Celebrate Pier Revitalization

Entries are now open for the annual Redondo Beach Commemorative Coin design contest.

The 2013 Redondo Beach City Coin will commemorate the Redondo Landing and the city's waterfront revitalization, and the city is accepting entries now for its annual coin design contest, according to a news release from the city.

The annual contest invites local artists to submit designs for the city's official commemorative coin, which is minted and given to visiting dignitaries and recipients of a special community award.

"Redondo Landing is the gateway to The Pier," according to the city. The Redondo Landing is part of the Resnick leasehold, and was the first part of the pier to undergo revitalization. "Its new facade will remind you of the original Looff Hippodrome, the landmark carousel from the 190s … Accented with new lighting, landscaping, benches and way finding signage, Redondo Landing is the beginning of a new era for The Pier!"
