City Gets $180K for Clean-Air Buses
A Department of Transportation grant will fund five new compressed natural gas buses for Beach Cities Transit.

Redondo Beach will receive $180,576 from the U.S. Department of Transportation to support the purchase of five new buses that run on compressed natural gas, according to a news release from Congressional Rep. Janice Hahn's office.
According to the grant notice on the DOT's website, the buses will help maintain a 100 percent alternative fuel fleet for Beach Cities Transit, which serves Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and El Segundo.
"We are very pleased to hear the approval of our grant request," Redondo Beach Mayor Mike Gin said during a meeting in Washington D.C. "With these new vehicles, we can continue to serve the residents of the South Bay community in an environmentally sustainable way."
