City Gets $8.3M for Road Improvements
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority approves a proposal to distribute Measure R funds to South Bay cities.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority's approval in June of a proposal from the South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCG) means that Redondo Beach will receive at least $8.3 million from Measure R funds to improve certain roadways in the city.
Measure R, a half-cent sales tax that voters approved in 2008, allocates funding for freeways and road projects near freeways. According to the SBCCG, a total of $176 million Measure R funds will be spent on more than 40 freeway and road projects in the South Bay over the next five years.
In Redondo Beach, the funds will pay for improvements on Pacific Coast Highway between Anita Street and Palos Verdes Boulevard at a cost of about $1.4 million. Another $320,000 will be spent improving the intersection of Palos Verdes Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway.
