City Hikes Fees for Parking Meter Permits, Banners

The city increases the fees for parking meter permits and establishes new filming permit fees.

After a brief public hearing Tuesday night, the Redondo Beach City Council approved increases in fees for parking meter permits, use of the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center and street banners.

Additionally, the City Council established new fees for filming locations and permits, as well as property transaction fees for affordable housing applications.

The increased fees went into effect Wednesday. The parking meter permit fee was increased from $95 to $110, a change expected to bring the city about $25,500 in additional revenue, while increases in the fees for use of the Performing Arts Center will bring the city an additional $18,637.

Depending on the location, the city increased the fees for hanging street banners by $25-$75, bringing an additional $3,000 in revenue.

A film permit in Redondo Beach will now cost $735. Additionally, filming at large parks will cost $1,500; filming at small parks like Moonstone Park will cost $600; filming at the Fulton and Perry Allison playfields will cost $400; and filming at parkettes in the city will cost $300. Filming on the waterfront will cost at least $600.

The city estimates the new fees will bring in at least $47,000.

Affordable housing property transaction fees will be $50 for a price application and $250 for both a home equity line of credit or refinancing application and a subordination agreement application.
